Granted putting the squeeze on increases that friction, but there ain't any thing else at 'work'.
Of course!! You don't need a bite in this application.
So what, the friction works and there no mars on the tubes. Friction locks most things on the SS.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I'm planning on using it with the Incra box joint setup. I believe it will come in very handy.

For what it is worth I too have had this since it was introduced and I follow the recommendations given by shopsmith. I waited for years for them to come up with this system, of course I had a work around but still this was a feature that was lacking that is now solved.

You mentioned the set screw was a 'dog nose'. That mean it is a half dog? I would have expected it to be an oval or flat. ???

I like the idea of the brass set screws. Does SS sell them ?

I would make sure that it is a 5/16"-18x1/2" Half Dog (514748) since that is what Shopsmith installs in a new unit.

The Adjustable Stop Collar (555937) has a 5/16-18x3/8 Brass Tipped Set Screw in them. It is available for service also.

Maybe this is one of those situations where there are multiple wrong answers. Maybe Shopsmith has changed in mid course. This document, which came with each of my three Adjustable Stop Collars, identifies the set screw to be a 1/2" half dog. I can look at what is installed in mine and tell that it is not brass.

Sorry, yes it is a half dog so flat.
BTW, there are no brass set screws on the 10ER as you suggested in another post. There are knobs with brass threads however.

I agree Dusty. I have four and they are not brass tipped.
