Things to look for in a SS jointer

Unless the blades have been sharpened a few times b4, should be able to sharpen them for less then 50, I think my guy charges .75 or 1.00 an inch.
Be care full with the fence, there is a pin for locking at 90* that is hard to see, and if inserted will not let you change fence angle just by loosing it, you must pull the pin back, or it is a little lever thing a ma jig that pivots out of the way.

This fellow said he's never used it, and that it didn't look like it had much use on it at all. So it could be a very nice unit with just a little surface rust. If that's the case, I'll grab it and keep looking for a belt sander.

Yup, bought it. Looks like it has had little use, and when cleaned up a bit it should be very nice. Turns out that I knew the fellow through HAM radio! Small world.

Although the knives might need to be cleaned up, it appears to be well worth the $80 it cost me.

EDIT: I have to add that I guess I am a bit perplexed by this statement from the document linked to by algale.

May require replacement if the outfeed end of the jointer fence raises too high off the outfeed table surface, or if the fence lock handle fails to hold the fence at the proper angle when tightened.

So...how much is "raises too high"? The fence on this jointer does raise a bit--but that casting looks to be in very good condition, although I didn't disassemble the thing in his garage. And the fence seems to lock nicely into place and stay there, so as far as I can tell it appears that the Jointer Fence Tilt Quadrant casting (part 'F' on that page) is in good shape. But maybe I can get out into the shop tomorrow and disassemble it more to take a look. I'm still on crutches for another week, but I can probably get out into the shop to take a closer look at the thing. I'll try to shoot a picture or two of the unit to post as well.

OH Bro, 80$ was great, I live on Stroebe Island in A town, we got to get together!!!!!!!!!! I check out CL in A Town, GB, Mad Town and Milw every day, I did not see it. JPG will get jealous though, but he never invited me in when down that way. I am down taking care of mom in Milw but should be back to A town between Christ B day and NYs, maybe a road trip to meet. When I have the free dates, sis coming in then to see/take care of mom and give me a few days off. Will PM, would not want JPG to have to drive up here in the winter, heard he is not good at it.

LOL... Apparently I just lucked into it then--although I find that hard to believe, given that the only luck I seem to have in these things is the "I just sold it yesterday" sort of thing. He still has a band saw and a jig saw (I think), and is asking $75 apiece for those. Also, he has a model 500 that looks to be in pretty good shape...but I didn't see/hear it run. But it's clean and appears to have been well cared for with little use.

Yeah, let me know when you're around and we'll get together. I am still gimpy after surgery two weeks ago, but hopefully will be more or less "functional" again by 1/1/2016. Then I can get into the shop and get the two SS units up & running.

Freaken hey, either windows 10 or this craptop key board, get the bands saw for 75 a bargain, 175-250 on ebay, and on cl usually not by themselves only with the machine. With the variable speed greenie can cut anything on the BS with the right blade, call them back.
Last one I saw was a widow in GB with one for 75, gone in a NY minute, what ever that is.
I have 2 BS a mint 14 Delta with a riser block in it for resawing/work horse, and a found a steal, SS a stand alone for 100$ 2 stage pulley, I can mount it on my SS too. So that has a smaller blade for fine work.
Look for a good True Value or Ace that has tool service, most likely ship out bladed to be sharpened but a bargain, I see some one on CL that does it but I think they are in A town, a bit of a drive for you.

Good price JPG even up to 150 and no use for the jig/scroll saw can be resold around here for 75ish maybe.

He is pretty firm on the cost of $75 apiece. I already have a band saw, but if his bandsaw is in better shape...I could sell mine and keep his. I see the bandsaws are selling for around $125-150 on eBay.

Anyway, we've been texting this morning and he's going to take a few pictures for me when he gets home and then text them to me. If they look to be in good shape, I might just buy them. Although I really need a belt sander more than anything else--and in fact that's why I called him in the first place, lol. Somehow I ended up with a jointer, but it seemed like too good of a deal to pass up.

Good luck on a belt sander, best I came across on CL was a Menards clone in St Paul MN,for 125, but had a Menards clone 6 inch jointer with it. The jointer is a bit longer then the SS 4 inch. The only belt sander I have seen seperate from a machine 4 sale, and only a couple with a machine.
