This looks like the one I picked up. And the video that JPG linked is the one I referenced. That whole site of Sawdust Sessions is great. Of course, while I was taking the switch out I was also removing the belt, sheaves, quadrant, etc. Cleaning it all out and lubricating it. All of which you can learn from the videos.

What I have done when replacing switches on SS is tie a piece of string on the old switch and lower it down with the string going through the hole, change the switch, tie the string on the new one and pull it up through the hole and mount the retaining ring.

Interesting. Is there any reason you prefer to avoid pulling the switch out of the back access port?

My hand barely fits in the port and does not want to fit coming out. I am not sure if the wires are long enough either. If it works, go for it.

That switch is a good choice except for the screw terminals. The same switch with 1/4" faston(slip on) terminals would be more gooder. There are screw to 1/4" clips, but are hard to find.

That's part of what I meant when I said I had to file down the terminals. Removed the screws and thinned the terminals out a little with a dremmel. That was the only one I could find that came close (and pretty much an exact match, too) after going to multiple hardware stores.

Cutting the original clips off and replacing them with ring terminals may be a 'better' alternative. Need good crimpers!
