In my humble opinion and soliciting the experts!
Isn't this idler bearing and bushing too far out? Causing the belt to ride incorrectly?

The eccentric is positioned correctly.
Is the bearing positioned in the eccentric correctly?
I agree it looks too far back.
Is the set screw in the groove?

The set screw appears correct,however there was an extra (small) washer under the main eccentric stop washer allowing it to be ~1/16" farther out. Which brings up the next question...wouldn't that also affect the sheeve alignment? Not that critical?JPG wrote:The eccentric is positioned correctly.

Disregard my question! I think I answered it myself! The idler sheeve slides and aligns with the fan sheeve (fixed)...basically "self" aligning, albeit could affect RPM slightly? Correct?

The screw and washer should position the eccentric even with the casting, so an extra small washer would position it all to the rear.
The set screw positions the bearing relative to the eccentric.
The idler shaft has clips that position the idler sheave along the idler shaft.
You have pictured the gilmer belt on the drive pulley. Where is the belt on the idler sheave pulley?
The idler sheave should NOT slide on the idler shaft. You may be missing the retaining clips.
FWIW, the movable sheaves align with the opposing fixed sheave only at the extreme positions. The idler sheave should be fixed and align to the floating sheave only at "FAST'. The control sheave aligns with the fan sheave only at "SLOW".

I understand! Thanks for not bashing the new kid! The belt was centered on the idler pulley.

Ahh but the 'center' of the adjustable pulleys changes as the movable sheave changes position. That is why the fixed sheaves are on opposite 'ends'. The center moves about 1"(IIRC) as the movable sheaves are positioned from slow to fast. Only the control sheave is manually controlled. The floating sheave self adjusts to that by the same amount along the shaft.

Correct Bearings?
I bought these bearings 26 years ago. Are they suitable replacements?
