The tires are the old black style ones and they came preinstalled from Shopsmith. I wasn't confident in my own ability to install them smoothly with the adhesive and that was one of the reasons I went with the upgrade kit.

Here is an image of the lower wheel which I sent to Shopsmith support. You can see how the black tire is not centered on the tire. I tried running the bandsaw once it was installed and you can see, as I did, that almost immediately the blade started eating into the tire

That is what the tire is there for. Provides a place for the tooth set to go as it goes around the wheel. Sawdust buildup is also 'typical'.

Thanks. I'm aware that the sawdust buildup is normal. Didn't see the saw blade bite into the tire like that on my older set of wheels though. Hmmm... Could just be my lack of experience making things seem worse than they are. Still have lots to learn.

If, in that last image, the white on the tire is where the rubber has been cut away by the blade and it is not sawdust then this is NOT normal.

If the white in the photo image is the result of the blade cutting into the tire, I have absolutely no idea. I have never seen anything like that.

I didn't know there was an upgrade to get new tires installed by shopsmith, is that a phone sort of thing that doesn't appear on the web site? I now wonder what other things they will do????

As far as the tire goes, it appears that they don't know how to put the tire on either, well at least who ever did this one. Was the other tire also done and is it the same way? Did you happen to check for roundness as well? Tire are prone to have bunchy spots and thin spots, if so then they will be out of round and the blade will move following the rise and fall of the diameter.

As far as the blade cutting the rubber, kind of hard to tell due to the saw dust, if you take an old tooth brush and clean the saw dust off you should find that not much has happened.

Thanks again for all you responses. We got a little distracted from the original post but that's cool. I think I'm gonna go with all new roller type for now, since I've received the replacement screw.

Also, I've received the new wheels and tires. These look MUCH better. Now I'll just have to wait for some time and warm weather to install them. Then it's off to doing more woodworking!
