Fun aspect I also understand. Innovative solution you came up with!

When I had to cut some PVC Well Casing that was over 4½ I borrowed a friends 12" Sliding Compound Miter saw and rigged up a 2 x 4 L-shape fence extension and a band clamp to hold it secure for the cuts.

It made short work of it for me and they were square.

Next time I do that kind of project there is my justification for buying my own 12". LOL

One caveat if using a RAS or a Bandsaw or a Tablesaw to cut 'pipe' -

Be sure to provide some rotation discouragement to the pipe.  :D

The number one objective was to get a nice looking result. I am very happy with the results I am getting with the router.

I'm wondering what your project is, care to to tell us? It doesn't sound like a one off sort of thing so there must be a good back story, right?

That's why I used the band clamp. At first I had a small sleeve I made from a bicycle inner tube slid over the band clamp where it fit over the pipe.

In that creative vein that we all get into I experimented and used the end of the pipe to draw a template on a piece of Oak that I cut at the bandsaw, radius sanded it, then glued in a piece of rubber to hold the pipe in place on my extension, under the band clamp.

Eventually for the last few pieces which I cut the next day, I moved it over and just pushed it in on the pipe with the hold-down screw on the saw on the back of the wood with the rubber glued in.

Each of the methods kept it from rotating. The inner tube method was actually the most flexible as it could adapt to any diameter pipe, so the most simple solution was actually the most adaptable one too.

It is sometimes amusing looking back at the contraptions I have fabricated, and even those I almost fabricated before discarding them, in an attempt to save work.... I think we all can identify to some extent.
