Osage looks wonderful once its finished. I've made several pens out of the stuff.. But like skitz said, leave it more proud than you think you should and sand to final dimension.
It'll look wonderful with some blo and ca glue.
I've made a few of the seam rippers from woodcraft and have had problems with the orings on every single one.
Replacements are easy enough to find, i get them at my local do it best hardware store.
Has anyone done a seam ripper from Woodcraft?
