I did my indexing jig on the front so I didn't have to deal with the play in the shaft. That is another way to deal with that issue.

There are two different types of wear between the splined shaft and the nylon coupler. That ignores any wear that occurs between the drive sleeve and the coupler.(possible since cinched by the spring and deeper splines, but far less likely).
The rotary wear of the coupler 'teeth'(teeth get narrower).
The linear wear of both the splines and the coupler 'teeth'.
Unless abrasive debris is introduced into all this, I believe the nylon coupler will have most of the dimensional changing wear.
I doubt slipping the teeth will change things 'much'.
Good thought though!
I suspect that when 'new' the coupler has a slight interference fit that loosens up with use.
