Getting it home???

Post by gpotwin »

Hey does the Shopsmith break down to smaller parts? I don't have a truck and don't know if my wife's Jeep Liberty is going to handle it. I might have to get uhaul pickup or friends truck.

The legs will unbolt. You are stuck with the length, but should be able to get it home that way.

Congradulations on becoming the new owner of an older Shopsmith.

I hope you had chance to find out its history. Some of the old models have stories to tell. If it has a colorful history, it makes it that much more fun to rebuild them.

New woodworker to be...

I hate to be the bearing of bad news but the machine you showed is a Total Shop, not a Shopsmith. I just disassembled one so I have some parts for it. The 5/8" arbor is standard but the tubes, double bearing quill (nice), 110/220 VAC 1 1/2 HP 16.8/8.4 Amp motor will not fit the Shopsmith or vise versa. None of the Shopsmith internal headstock parts will fit the Total Shop. All Shopsmith SPTs will work. It is a nice machine but since there is no parts available but used ones, I would pass on it unless you can get it a lot cheaper, like $100 is a good price.

If you do buy it, I will be happy to answer any questions about the Total Shop and/or Shopsmith.
