I don't understand the "block" in the first place. There doesn't seem to be one on any of the Britt's machines. Why not have the "spacer" slide with the short fence?

As I already said, I do not recommend this at all.

I have survived all these years without a riving knife. Again not recommended.

Not being used to having one makes one more conscious to the events leading to it being effective(necessary).

Yes the block was an addition by me because controlling the premature skewing near the end of the cut was impossible(maybe it does not matter unles you want a very straight cut!).

I looked at it in a thread/link a little over a week ago. I will try to relocate it.

As for a 'short' fence being 'safer', it does eliminate pinching the back of the blade.

That is 'the one'.

Rereading it reveals an error on my part.

The 'far' end of their fence is adjustable to not extend past the blade gullet(AT THE REAR).

So my short fence is too short. That is why controlling near the end of the rip is impossible.

Gonna back up and re do this.

I think and further reading supports this, you really (repeat that at least a dozen times) need something to keep the work piece from coming in contact with the back of the blade. The short fence versions all have that so I'm guess it is a requirement. They do not have anti-kickback paws....

Now if you are going to test this and I'm pretty sure you intend to do so I would recommend that you make a table insert with integrated splitter. If you search on the web for "table saw table insert with splitter" you will find many examples.
