I can't comment on the HF Blaster, I have a different make and by the changing of tips I can blast sand, black blast OR soda with. Soda will remove paint, but not super for rust removal, BUT it won't hurt aluminum (pit or warp the part, using silica sand creates heat and the impact force can warp steel) and when done stripping aluminum parts, they look like new unpainted castings, I will take pictures to show you the results. I bought 2 bags of soda to blast this Shopsmith and expect to use most of it, I will report that also.

It sure looks like the same. Nothing really special with soda except the fact it isn't as aggressive as other blasting media can be.

You can clean more sensitive items like soft metals without the damage incurred by the use of metal grits, etc...

As obvious, the soda blaster is intended for outdoor blasting and once you are finished, You simply allow rain water to wash away the powder.

As for what to expect with 40lbs. I have no idea. I've been reading different things with soda blasting however, I don't have one yet.

Two bags (I am assuming 40lb) does not sound bad for the number of items that you showed.

I will blast the legs,because they are steel and have some serious rust at the bottoms, with Black Blast that I get at Menards, keep in mind silica sand is not good for your lungs, so you need to wear a dust mask with all media but silica sand is far worse.

The Soda Blast I bought at HF comes in 50 lb bags. Also with soda you need a very fine tip otherwise you will waste alot of soda, that is why some people use a dedicated Soda Blaster.

All the parts are blasted, steel with Black Blast and aluminum with Soda Blast.

Yesterday I got everything primed, as soon as the temp out side gets up to over 56 degrees I will get it painted. When I was younger i would have gotten all this done in one day. I guess I am slowing down. Slow but sure.

I think your doing just fine! You're a lot further along than most folks would be in such a short amount of time...

great weather, got everything painted today, will let sit for a day or two to get a good dry going. The Xylol drys to he touch fast. Here are a couple of representative items pictured.
