Thanks, Charles. It's not the only part of concern, definitely, but now it is a problem, too. I think I mentioned earlier that I'm going through the entire headstock to check / replace any bearings that need it, lubricate or replace the parts that need it, etc.

Actually, now that I say all that, I just remembered I left the box of ShopSmith parts at the farm again today. Boo! I knew I should have just put them in the truck when I was thinking about it.

Re straightening the 'legs'. The off center meshing is an indication of them not being straight. Twisted is a somewhat more accurate description.

Yes Chuck lack of lubrication of the floating sheave exacerbates this wear. Still slow adjusting towards slow must be adhered to so as to allow the floating sheave time to respond. Ye be squeezing the motor belt.
