Surge like a milking machine.

We didn't care for Surge, we used Conde'.
Milking was my mother's enterprise. We kept about 45 head milking most of the time. She tired of it after about 15 years and we sold that herd. She went back to finish high school in her 40's then went to college (BSU) getting her BA. She kept going and got her Masters and then a guidance certificate maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She was the guidance director for the two high schools in our district for quite a few years. Sadly in her later years she went through a 10+ year slide into Alzheimer's and rode that train to the end of the line until it finally killed her.
Diana and I were her primary care for many years. We lived 400 feet away. I had to quit most of my farming and cash rented out most of the farm. I couldn't do it and keep her safe. She would wander out around the farm and get lost. We finally had to place her in an assisted living facility and fortunately she behaved well enough most of the time that she was able to finish out her life without having to be shuffled along to the next stage until the end.
During that time Diana's mom was living with us after she had to give up her apartment. She also had some problems. Her mind was sharp but she was legally blind, nearly deaf and could only walk with a walker. She was also battling cancer which was what finally killed her.
I only have one sibling, my sister but she lives in Florida (we are in Indiana) and could not help much.
Diana had seven siblings but for some reason she could barely get any of them to even visit her mom until the end...

We had a "really bad" decade +.

OK, now that I have cheered everybody up...

At that time in the mid 70s he had vacuum extractors to put on the Nipples, until the the power line to the house went out every Opening Day of deer hunting from the bar down the road the about 430 pm, some guy shot his buck, in the A M and got stupid eyed drunk and hit the power line, just as we got the last vacuum milker off about 430 PM.Just as Norm called it!!
Played Sheaps Head under a Aladdin Lantern at the kitchen table, than my friend in a cold house we were spooning to stay warm, his cousin, Norm,on Sunday morning came into the bedroom about 430 am with a Colman Lantern and said get up we have Cows to milk by hand!!!!!!!!!!!! A learning curve for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the tool that is the companion of the froe I posted recently.
Some call it a cudgel but that term tends to reference a battle club. Most call it a mallet. This one is quite old (now a decoration), I will be making a new one soon. Also a picture (not me) of one being used.
