Loaning Tools...

Re: Loaning Tools...
I'm lucky enough, or unlucky enough never to have to loan a tool to family. No one else in the family would know what to do with anything other than a screwdriver or hammer. Anyone who's brave enough to ask for help on something knows I'll just give them a hand, but never leave my tools behind. Too many times I've given out lectures on why they shouldn't be using the crescent as a hammer or the kitchen butter knife as a screwdriver, oh, and I'm not afraid to leave out the words knuckle head or bone head when they try.

Re: Loaning Tools...
I had a neighbor when I was still on active duty that asked to borrow my wrench set to work on his car. I said I'll send it over with my son. I think he was expecting my good set and for it to just be dropped off. Instead he got my son's cheap set with helper (7 year old son) to insure that he got his tools back and some training. That was the last time he asked to borrow tools. I was never sure if it was the inquisitive 7 year old or his tools that the guy objected to.
There are a few people that I will lend a tool to, such as my retired neighbor. He has a lot of hand tools and a old table saw. At some point, one of his grandkids gave him a bag of biscuits. I loaned him my biscuit jointer after seeing him cutting a biscuit joint by hand.

Re: Loaning Tools...
I do have two neighbors that would give my tools back cleaner than when they borrowed them. The rest, ....no.
