I've been in a hail storm with hail that large. When I was in 8th grade the night before we went for HS pretesting a storm came through and we had major damage to the roof on the back side of the house. Water came in by the buckets, we couldn't keep up and finally slept in the living room where it wasn't leaking.

Ceiling with insulation got so heavy it broke through and just about everything on that side of the house was ruined, beds, clothes, dressers, books etc. The water continued into the basement......... worst was the loss of pictures and other personal items.

It's funny but the damage was to about 1/3 of the roof, only the more flat part. No broken windows or other damage like that, in fact if you looked at the house from the outside everything looked normal. The insurance guy thought we were talking only minor damage until he came inside.

Thank goodness for insurance. Funny I still worry about roof damage, we replaced ours before it was due and I'll do it again that way when the time comes. More worried about twisters here in IL. We did have some crop damage when we were living in Naperville, hail was a lot smaller but stripped the leaves off the plants pretty good.

Here most of the neighbors took advantage of "hail damage" and our insurance rates have more then doubled. Yea they all got nice new siding and somehow we didn't. Storm chasers are not welcome at our house.
