Hmm I did remove the idler sheave but I feel that when I pulled it off the shaft the key slid off with it. I'll have to inspect it some more. Regarding the bearings, I've read that section a few times so hopefully im ready when the time comes.

On this style the retaining clip had the tensioning bolt pass through the clip and this locked the bearing assembly in place.

Everett thanks for the pic and post to the topic. I plan on getting 2 of the clips the hold it all in place instead of drilling and tapping.

They haven't been made in decades. eBay or a donor machine maybe. If someone else has any it might be Bill Mayo

Getting a B series headstock casting may serve you better. They are on eBay too.

I planned on contacting Bill Mayo for them due to reading about all the parts he has stock piled and him trying to reduce the pile. Great find JPG! That was my second choice, looking on eBay.

Also, check out Bill Mayo's Headstock improvement kit 2nd edition dated June 16 2016 the two write-ups are identical, up to the last page(s) which has his latest additions he sent me in an email.

You want to be sure you understand how to tension the two ears without breaking one off, which happens...

Thanks for the info Everett. I've talked to Bill Mayo and am going to purchase quite a few parts from him that have the "fixes" done already. I've also read that but didn't download it so that helps to find it easily
