Oh! if y'all would not use 1/8" hooks in 1/4" peg board they would not be so floppy.

BTW what is the size of the holes in the diamond plate 'board'. I assume 1" spacing(?).

I started a project where the door between the garage/shop and the house will have some metal pegboard panels installed. They will provide some additional storage and ready access to things that I often go the shop for from the house(attached garage).

All the stuff will have to "thin" so it will effect egress and the panels are on the hinge side of the door. I have some "regular" peg board hooks but since this is a swing door I'm worried about movement and things falling down.

In a shopnotes magazine they showed these talon hooks which lock in place. I've not seen them in real life but the magazine and the web site make them look pretty attractive.

Has anyone used these and are the worth the added cost? In my case using them on a door might make since?????????

In the next few days I hope to get out of the house and check them out in real life, until then I have to live vicariously by your wisdom.

I have used the talon hooks and have found them to be a mixed bag. They are stable but are a pain to install and remove. In a normal peg board the hole has to be enlarged to get them in and the if you want to move it, it very hard to get out.

Too organized! Where in tarnation can one find diamond plate steel pegboard?

I have purchased mine at Menard's and tried to wait for either sales or their 11% offers as it is expensive.

They come in 3 sizes, all the same 16" with lengths of 16", 32" and 48". As you can see they have a fold to them so they sell space off the wall/door as you install them.

They take 1/4" hooks. I did try smaller hooks but they are really loose. They have the standard 1" spacing but I don't recall if that applies when going from panel to panel, I'm thinking not but I will check later if someone really needs to know.

I have 2560 sq in of this installed in various locations in the shop and it is working well. The door is the latest and an experiment. So far it has been promising as nothing has fallen off but still way to early to form any opinion.

I've bought several sets of pegboard hooks at HD that come with little plastic retainer clips. They work pretty well. In the photo below, at right, I hung one sideways on a hook so that you can see the cross section.

The hook holders or what ever they are called do work very well. I got a collection of them years back and had to figure out what I had done with the unused ones. Found them today all tucked away in a nice little box. I had not used them on 1/4" peg board so I hooked up a few to test out:

When my wife got the scissor out the other day one of the hooks fell out so that is now fixed.

I had gotten mine at HD as well but when I went back to get some more they didn't have them anymore. I ask about them and it was like "WHAT?". this was a couple of years ago. I'll go back and check this coming week because I think this the way I want to go.

The hooks all have the two "pins" that go in the peg board. Hard to see but trust me they are there. The ones with just the single hook are a waste of time, I had some early on and replace all of them. I guess if you used the black plastic things they might work but they are long gone from my shop and I have none to test that theory with.

I have some hooks that are actually the right size for my pegboard holes, and also have the lower anti-rotation pin. Problem is, the anti-rotation pins aren't spaced quite right to fit my pegboard, and don't go in far enough to do any good. Not sure if the tolerance problem is with the pegboard or the hooks -- both came from HD.

My 1/8" hooks that JPG was making fun of do not have the anti-rotation pins; they came with the plastic retainer clips instead. And work pretty well. I bet that your clips came with the pegless hooks that you got rid of.

My wife let me out of the house today all by myself. I stopped by a Home Depot for a couple of things. One was to see if they still sold the little black plastic retaining things. They do not. You can get them in a collection but not by them selves.

However I was able to locate them on Amazon:

If some is interested. This is what I got but maybe not at Home Depot but at a hardware store??? Anyway I am putting an order together so I will have some soon.

I also got a fresh lesson on why it is not my favorite place to shop. I'm in line and a another person is checking out. The line is just the two of us. This is also the only line that is not self checkout, and I don't do self checkout.

Part way through the transaction the cash register stops working. So we have to move to another line, fine stuff happens. So the guy ahead of me finally gets all the stuff he has checked out but the card reader causes problems. OK only a couple more minutes and they get that working.

My turn, I've got a couple of metric bolts, some peg board hooks, some cut electrical wire. I'm standing with my credit card in hand. By this time the cashier figures out she has no change in the new register............ mind you she is not going to need it because I'm using my card...... OK I wait while she gets her rolls of coins put in the drawer.

OK here we go. The guy who cut the wire must have put the wrong number on it. She tries a couple of time....... I say fine I don't need the wire.

Now one of the plastic bags with the bolts in it will not scan...... she tries several time then decides to just can one of the other bags twice......

By contrast my shop at Menards where I got many many more things went as smooth as silk and in a mere fraction of the time. Night and day contrast.

Stopped in the Ace Hardware today for a couple of things and decided to check the pegboard section. They had the peg locks for $4.29 so I got a pack. Cheaper then Amazon BTW.
