I think you are going to love it!

As I mentioned I own 4 of them and the only problem I had was with the 1/4" collet on one of them. Put the bit in and then it would not let go. It took a good deal of effort to get out without damaging the bit. I contacted Hitachi and they sent me a new one.

Then I did something dumb and kept the old one. I thought maybe I had done something wrong the first time........... not so. The collet was bad but I ended up having to get the second bit out, again not an easy job. Not sure what was up with it but the others and the new one did not act that way.

I still remember powering up the first one. It was so quiet I thought I must have it set at low speed. Looked and it was on high. That one thing impressed me so much. Then when I got into using it I decided it would be my router of choice for a few additions I needed. Not at all sorry I went that way.

Thanks, Ed. I am by no means a router guy, but I know you are. So, if you say it's a good router, I'm confident it will be a good one. I ended up getting the plunge base, too. Figured it would be penny wise and pound foolish not to. Even if this router lives in the router arm 99% of the time, having the plunge base will be nice when I need it.


The Mark V mount overarm router off of ebay came and I am ecstatic! It is like new; clearly never set up or used (there was still some aluminum shavings in one of the bracket holes). A table (the only thing missing) is en route from Shopsmith, and once it gets here and the router, too, I'm looking forward to experimenting and learning what this thing can do.

For some time I've been looking for a router solution for the Shopsmith and was about ready to pull the trigger on the pro router system (the one that has rails like the 520), since the overarm isn't in production. When this showed up on ebay, I decided to take a chance and submit a best offer. I was surprised it was accepted. I've been watching Nick's old sawdust session videos on this tool, and I think I am going to really like it.
