Thanks for the kind words!! If not in the $$ picture, VDR motor, get an ER Speed Changer off of EBay, a good rebuilt one goes for about $175. I dont lurk there often, but I bought one for that from a regular seller there of ER parts. It was what he said. Powder blasted, new bushings/bearings, all cleaned up on the sheaves.
I did the speed check in an other Thread here. Nephew has one on his ER I set up for him, a Turner and loves it. 425ish-1500ish RPMs. Belts are all the same price even locally, did both.
Here is an other ER parts guy, I think Bill sold most to him, what you dont see, email or call. Plates or a Shaper fence let me know, I have many, and not using.
We ER guys/galls have to take care of each other. As Skou sez, "they are not printing them any more". Of the 3 I have and my nephews I got for him, all but 1 may have the original bearings in the HS, and the motors also I think. Like a Timex Watch, "Takes a Licken and Keeps on Ticken"!!

The last time I spoke to Bill which was just a week or 2 ago he said he had sold all of his ER parts, so I believe you are correct. I saw that website a while ago and forgot about it because I didn't save it. I just did though so thank you! I also have him saved on my eBay account. There is a speed changer up for sale right now i believe. I think it's $175 rebuilt as well. I would love to have it and already would if $$ wasn't a factor. I'm still a "baby" compared to most of you probably. 24, been married for 2 years, son just turned 2 and in the process of deciding whether to buy or build our first house. I've still got probably 50 years before retirement!

Make the good choice get a house, when I bought first one in 74, interest rates where above 10% and dropped to 9.75%, 30 year, everyone said buy, you will NEVER see them below 10 again!!!! Well I was 22 then, I now am 64, I learned to never say NEVER. A house is a money pit, but you can do what ever you want minus subdivision rules if in one. Heck the X lived in one that even dictated what color Xmas lights and drive ways had to be asphalt, no concrete not to mention mail boxes. She was on the "board" and patrolled the sub division on her morning walks, one multi $$$ Orthopedic Surgeon neighbor drove her nuts, every time his mail box was out of standard, they had a quarterly meeting on it and then a notice, then just left it to the next meeting, then the possible fine notice/6 months later. Then he would change it, to another none conforming mail box, and the whole process started over, finally one day he met here an said, "Do you have nothing better to do with your time" I can do this all day, all month ect

Oh boy, I lived in a subdivision in North Carolina when I was yunger and I remember it being somewhat of a pain. I've had some land offered to me by my Grandpa, a State Trooper that retired to be the Town Justice for many many years and that's where the building consideration comes from. But that's still a little ways away! However, back to the ER, I spent some time tonight, (today? 3AM?) tearing into the motor. It looks as though the bearing puked it's grease everywhere so it needs some cleaning. I know it runs though so that's a good start! Here's some pics I took after the teardown.

It is such a great idea to take quality pictures of tear-downs as you have photos of what you have, not searching later for someone else's model that's visually similar. I am glad you posted them.

It is a reminder to us all.

Taking them on reassembly and then comparing them to the tear-down can be revealing to insure it was reassembled the same way before being powered up

Hi Tyler,

FWIW, Skip does not stock bearings. He told me it was easier and cheaper to just order them yourself. He gets them from A&W Bearings in Dallas, TX. 800-535-9638. They carry the original OEM Timkin/Fafnir bearings. They are more expensive than what you see on eBay but they are the best you can buy. The two sets were just under $100 when I did my first ER last year. The bearings in my motor were MRC and I got them also from A&W also.

Everett, I wish I realized the picture taking thing when I was doing the greenie! I've studied the exploded view more times then I studied for anything in school! But thank goodness they're simple machines. Something I didn't take a picture of but should have is the wiring to the switch. The previous owner was a "master electrician" and had installed a household light switch in place of the toggle switch. When I took it apart, the line cord (just 2 wires) was connected to one side of the switch, then the other half of the line cord with the plug was cut off, connected to the other side of the switch and then plugged into the outlet. Is it just me or is that a weird way of doing it?
