I have both and I agree with folks, the Pro Planer is significantly better. The heavier bed is a very important piece of that, just keep it waxed and it works. My mounted one which works, has been relegated to become spare parts should something common break on the Pro.

My main thought was the feed mechanism, motor, controller failing on the Pro, but it is working fine.

Honestly, I think some of the feed motors that failed perhaps did so because the drag of forcing stock against a bed that wasn't waxed, loading it up excessively causing it to wear. Just a thought, not proven.

I have had all 3 types. Putting in on the tubes is a lot of work etc for me. Still a great machine as you can control the head rpm as well as the feed. I always run it wide open anyway so I have the others. Have had the stand alone for at least 25 years and still runs perfect. Just picked up a stand alone pro planer on ss casters at a estate sale the second day for $162.50. Little surface rust on table but gone now. I do need a new key as the round tip on plastic safety key broke off. Also had a jointer $30.00, and a older jig saw almost mint for $48.00. Man I couldn't get my money out fast enough. I also have the portable ss planer. It will take 6ins high instead of 4 in but over all I love my stand alone planer and recommend it to anyone.
Have som many duplicates now I need more room. Love getting them and making them look and work like new. They are real beautiful tools to be proud of!
