If you have a legible data plate for the Emerson, I would bet just about any company rebuilding motors could find you the specs you need for a motor start capacitor, if someone here doesn't have the exact data.
I have a pro planer buried in the shop behind tons of stuff that just got moved. I don't know if it is an Emerson, but will see what I can find when I can get access to it.

I've been down this road before. The only way you will get component spec's is to be able to read them on the component itself. Shopsmith has imposed some sort of restriction on Emerson (and I suspect other manufacturers). Specifications are proprietary.
I thought I had an inside line to Emerson and I do but I was unable to extract any useful technical information. I was given a lot of technical data but nothing specific to the motors that Shopsmith uses. My contact told be "no-way".
At the time I was seeking information on the start windings in an attempt to be able to reverse motor direction.
The Emerson motor on the ProPlaner is a T55GK-439. It is a 120vac, 60 cycle, 15 amp motor. It runs at 3450 rpm.
I don't know what your back ground is but you might find this video informative. To do the test described in this video, you need a good volt/ohmeter.

Try lightly cleaning the capacitor using acetone. All you need to know is the capacitor rating (how many MFD).

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to clean off the capacitor and find some print on it that should provide me with the needed information to find a replacement.
I received my order from Shopsmith today. When I attempted to fit a new key into the slot on the cutterhead for the pulley, I discovered the shaft was more worn over than I had realized. The key won't fit because the shaft has worn over the groove, making it narrower at the top. See pics below.

Would simply filing the groove out so the key fits work? Should I be concerned about slop with thrmpulley not fitting snugly enough?

I recently had to replace the 3" aluminum pulley with a new 3" steel pulley. I found the pulley had a 3/16" keyway, but the shaft keyway was about 11/64" wide and deep. I used a little judicious filing on the key, reducing one dimension by a 64th, and notched the other to a snug fit in the keyway.. This worked for me, ymmv.

What was the capacitance? I am having the same issue with this same model of Emerson (T55GK-439), but my cap is completely corroded. I'd appreciate info about the capacitance value (MFD) if somebody has this information. Thanks!

This may help or may add confusion.
My Emerson 1 3/4 HP motor model T55ef-372 uses a 17.5 µF 370v 60Hz capacitor.
My source for the motor was Bill Mayo.
