Yep, the paint must be applied thick to create the hammered effect. The paint pigments will separate after it is applied(creates fish eye intentionally) and when vertical it will run. Once separated it will not run after about 5 minutes.

Best to paint in stages with only horizontal surfaces.

Oh and shake often!

Tabletop update. I decided to use a heat gun to remove the stainless top and was quite surprised that the cast machined tabletop was in very good condition. NASTY glue was a PITA to remove. After many hours of wet sanding, I now have a a very usable tabletop. No need for a stainless steel cap. Both motors are curing with a new brushed on coat of black gloss rustoleum. Reassembly next weekend.

Total cost. $160 CL planer/stand purchase price combined with $200 parts from SS. Plus acetone, mineral spirits, evapo-rust, cider vinegar, Rustoleum paint, gun blue, and a variety pack of metal sanding paper. Total cost $400. It still needs to be determined if new blades are in order.

Wax that table top with Johnsons Paste Wax and keep it waxed. When buffed off it leaves no residue, and makes the wood glide with far less effort through the planer.

Through the years, I have heard folks who were tripping breakers due to the motor loading trying to push the wood through, that completely resolved itself after waxing the table.

I keep mine waxed. Some day I will try to post a set of before / after data when I run some stock through using a Ammeter to measure current draw, then wax it and repeat it with some of the same stock to illustrate the difference.

I do get just a bit jealous of you guys with a great eye for design.

While it is 'separated', could you measure the center locations of the 5 holes in the middle relative to the 4 outer mounting screw holes(Please!!!!!).

I've taken some measurements and will post a photo tomorrow when i can size the image the image within guidelines for posting
