You know that many years ago now I had one of those ah-ha moments when doing some hand cut joints. I had no good way to hold them in the position and was wondering how to make something to hold the wood. I was looking at a dovetail/box joint jig I had and thinking how I could make something like that..... wait..... I already have the jig!!!!!! No rule says you have to use the jig with a router. And no one ever says no Ed don't do that unless it me and I didn't. So if you already have such a jig then maybe you don't need to build one, but you certainly can if you want.

What can I say!!! I need an aspirin. Blows my attempt away. With that rig, who needs a dovetail??

For those of you who may be wondering why I would to to so much trouble to make a vise like this, here is the reason. I wanted to be able to make joints on stock longer than 30" or so and wider than about 12". I wanted it to be about 34" from the floor so it could be used sitting down or standing up ( 85 yrs old and almost out of gas). I didn't have room to use my "Work-Mate" so this seemed to fit the bill.

By the way if you guys get bored with pictures, just let me know, they seem to tell the story much better than I can.

Never, We love pictures.

Update:

Decided to make some changes to the vise after using it on a project posted under "General Woodworking"

Drilled some dog holes and made some dogs. Also made a different adjustable fence with holes so it wouldn't tilt. Maybe more changes coming as required.
