Right now it is acclimating in the back of my van. Don't have any room in the shop. before the weather turned bad, I got some of the Maple planed it went smooth. Planed one piece of the Cherry and boy it is tough. I thought Walnut was rough on the planer, but the Cherry is in another league.

Neither walnut nor cherry are especially hard as hardwoods go, and my own Pro Planer handles both of those with ease. Not to mention oak, which is considerably harder. Are your blades sharp? Table waxed?

Sometimes I forget how fortunate I am to have the wood resources I have. Not only do I have my own mill and 20 acres of woods, I have maybe 15 fairly busy hardwood mills within about a 25 mile radius of me where I can go buy something I want that I might not have. Several of the mills belong to local Amish and 2 of them are friends.
If I want to drive a little farther, Southern Indiana (Hoosier National Forest) has a lot of timber and small sawmill operations.
Maybe 6 years ago we hauled a newly purchased old Farmall H tractor home for a friend and in talking to the seller he showed us the 8 stall horse stable he was about done building. He had driven down to Kentucky not too far from Fort Knox with his trailer and brought home a really beautiful big load of cypress lumber to build the stable with. His cost for the wood itself was .32 cents a board foot. Pretty stuff... We normally don't see cypress here where I live on the edge of the prairie except a few landscape trees.
