Thanks a lot WoodyWoodWorker! Looking forward to learning how to use it. I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on the dust collector.

ecom1 wrote:Welcome to the club! I'm relatively new here too but can say I'm constantly amazed at the amount of product knowledge available through this group!! Being new to this tool, you will have questions - don't be shy, ask away. Then you'll probably have to sift through all the ideas to find the best one for you, which is a great "problem" to have! :)
Thank you ecom1! After looking around the forum, I can certainly see what's you're talking about...lots of people willing to share great information. To be honest, the support and sense of community that comes along with having a Shopsmith is one of the things that made me want to get one. That's pretty cool.

One word of caution, the lathe mode can become extremely addicting!!! Enjoy your new toy and be safe!!!!!

Thanks a lot Mike! I agree, I'm very lucky. She knew I had been talking about getting one for a few years, so she wanted me to pick out what I wanted. :) Of course, this came with a list of things for me to build for her, which totally works for me!

I bet I'll feel the same way about the lathe soon. Can't wait to try out making pens, shaving brush and razor handles, bowls, etc. Looks like fun!

Welcome to the group. Do not hesitate to ask anything and post pictures so we have a better understanding of what you are talking about.

Get your wife involved. My wife has always been a crafty person and she does scroll sawing. When I go to the shop she goes to the shop.

Hey John, That's really cool you and your wife working together in the shop!

Not only do you offer one another companionship, If one or the other have an accident, someone is immediately there to call for help!!!

Thank you John! Good thought about the photos. I'll be sure to do that. It's great that you and your wife enjoy woodworking together. I'd be happy if my wife got interested in woodworking. I'll see what I can do about that!

Lance,

If you think your wife would be interested engaging in wood working, Take John's advice and invite her into the shop. Show her (with patience) how to safely operate the equipment and let her imagination fly...

The Jig saw and Band saw are two of the safest items to use. Let her try cutting some small scrap and she may become hooked...

This could also be grounds for acquiring that second SS. Once the bug really bites you, You will be checking craigslist and the like searching for the next machine.... They can become so addicting, you can't settle for just one or two!!!
