Is the motion detectable/measurable with an angle indicator? With a dial gauge?

Release and reset all of the locks. Especially the Carriage lock. Is the Carriage lock handle nearly horizontal when you think it should be locked? Have you done a Carriage lock adjustment?

From his description I suspect the mounting tubes are moving in the carriage bores(elevation clamp). Since that clamps front to rear, it is possible for the mounting tubes to move sideways slightly. Increased tightening may decrease it, but total elimination is unlikely.

BTW, place a number on the amount of 'rocking'.

Also how does that amount affect accuracy when ripping?

I suspect very minimaly.

Or cross cutting either for that matter.

Jog my memory - How old is the Mark V/5?

According to the serial number search the unit is a mid 1983 model ,, it appears to me the movement is a flex in the carriage ? , maybe 1/6 inch or so depending on weight or pressure,

My guess is ya cant do any thing with it.

I now have the 510 table ..it is much better still moves a little but not much , I assume the wider newer table carriage helps,,,,once I get the tubes and complete the table I don't think it will be any issue .

I am trying to decide to go with the 520 set up for the improved fence or not.

Does that still use the same connecting tubes between the tables as the 510?

============

I have some what ,,,,,however I didn't over tighten any thing ,, I was afraid of getting it too tight and denting the tubes , I haven't used it for a saw table since I got the 510 table ,,,, I have since kicked it to the side so to speak.

Not sure how a wider carriage would help.

I am confused. You mentioned movement between the carriage and the table. Now you are suspicious of the carriage moving. Which is it? One or the other, or both?

P.S. Are we still discussing a 500 or a 510 table.

I am discussing my old mkv table ,,, it is smaller ,,,,the carriage is smaller ,,,,it is much older ,,,,, it seems it moves ,,rocks,,tilts and what ever else ya can call it ,,,,,ya can see it with the blade in the insert ,,,,, the bolts are all tight , the carriage mount seems tight , If I can I will take a video one of these days and post it .

I have a car in the garage now .
I appreciate your help though .

I don't use it now so i will have to put it back on the way tubes.

1/6", really? Movement of .167", that is a bit greater than my self determined tolerance of .005".
