For what its worth his fella experiments with finishes .
IMO He doesn't seem to bring up the penetration issue , you can see the difference in his oil and how they penetrate the wood , a deeper penetrating oil will take more coats and should last longer .

I am a fan of Watco. It is easy to apply and offers me the best options going from a low gloss natural finish to a high gloss. It is also very easy to add coats down the line to restore the wood to a nice finish.

lots of options thanks guys I'm going to experiment with some of these recommendations let you know how I go
