LED Light Blubs

Re: LED Light Blubs
I was waiting for lower prices. I recently happened upon what I thought was a good price ($25.00) at Home Depot. It is a single 4' fixture that puts out 3000 lumens (only uses 30 watts). It is linkable, and it has a pull chain. Very impressed with it. Need to replace some more flourescents with some more LED's.

I replaced all my house and shop lighting with LED's. Replacing the shop Florescent lights took some work removing the ballasts and replacing the tombstones. You just have to pay attention to what you are doing and follow the directions, but it is actually fairly simple to do. I will never go back to CFL either now that I can actually see in my shop without all the strobe effect and delayed light operation in the cold. Not to mention the savings in electricity usage.

Dimmable LEDs have been around for a few years, just have to make sure you purchase those that are dimmable, which will usually cost more than the cheapest bulbs. However, do some research first, alot of the dimmables will give off a hum, especially if you are using old style dimmers, and some are louder than others.Hobbyman2 wrote:I replaced the bulbs in the dash of my car , it was a LED, it took a soldering gun to replace a light bulb, major PIA ,??
I have LED in the kitchen ,,, they dont dim like my others.
Now I hear they make dimer LED bulbs.

I don't remember what the actual problem with the original tombstones was. All I know is they didn't work with the LED's I bought. It really wasn't a big deal tho and it turned out to be easier than trying to remove the wiring from the old tombstones. Just pull out the old. Replace with the new and rewire.JPG wrote:curiousgeorge Why did you replace the tombstones?

Re: LED Light Blubs
I’ve mostly switched over to LED lighting and I’m mostly satisfied. I’ve had a few bulbs fail but not too many.
The strangest problem I had was when I first put LED bulbs in my garage door opener. When the garage door opener lights were on, the remote controls in the cars had almost no range. When the light went off, the remotes worked fine again. Apparently the bulbs gave off some kind of radio interference. I switched the bulbs to a different LED brand and all is well. The bulbs in separate light fixtures don’t seem to cause trouble, just the ones installed directly in the opener.
