Michael, I have type 2 diabetes. It was diagnosed by the VA during a yearly exam. They have been treating it without question. What medications (one) necessary are provided by them also. Along with the finger poke monitor. I have no service connected health problems.
As to diabetes being considered as a service connected disability, I'm not aware of it. Don't know if it would make a difference in treatment, anyway.

Well, I tried to get the exchange ID, but they cannot find my record. The help screen is not very helpful as it says to go to NARA and recreate my record but has no info as to how I would do that

I also go thru the VA for my diabetes supplies. They found I had it on the first visit and they also found that I had had a heart attack at some time in the past. I cannot say any thing bad about the treatment that I am getting thru the VA. They test for things my reg DR never does and as he told me it is because he has to work under restrictions by the insurance companies. Only reason I have an outside DR is for an emergency where I need treat now

I just love it when she says I can go make sawdust.

Steve, the VA considered my ADHD as service connected.
Now, if they would consider arthritis as service connected.
(Arthur has moved into MY house, and is drinking all my beer!
But, leaving ME with the hangover!)

Arthritis, baldnes, any other nes's after the fact would be nice too!

If they get enough complaints I am sure they will address the issue. A phone call to AAFES Headquarters in Dallas should help. The number is 800-527-6790. The number for Shopmyexchange, the web site where you sign up, is 800-527-2345.

I didn't have any problems verifying. I didn't receive an ID though. I got this on the webpage and an email with the same.

There is no ID required because you can only shop on line not at AAFES brick and mortar stores. Those still require an active duty, retired or dependent ID card. Once you create a login for the AAFES web site the system will know you are eligible to shop.

This is one place I have seen this information, so I would question your doctor, especially if you were exposed to Agent Orange.

Lots of things have changed over the years. If you are a Vet you should go to the nearest VA center and find out. You will be surprised what is available. The VA in Salt Lake provides van transportation to the medical center from Idaho and Nevada and all over Utah.
