I don't see the need for more sections. there are already times when I am not sure which section to put a post in, adding more sections just adds to the confusion. Also thread that start on one topic can veer in unexpected directions, that is only natural, and not necessarily detrimental.

I do however try to include "10ER" in the subject heading if I start a thread that is 10ER specific so that members who are not interested can skip that discussion.

On the other hand unless I win the lottery, (and I don't buy tickets, so that isn't likely) I will never own a PowerPro or a 510/520, but I still read posts that cover them, there might be information there that is also applicable the equipment that I do own, and even if not it is interesting and instructive to see how problems are diagnosed and solved.

Dusty, i am usually on your side, but on this we differ. Using your logic on differences and conflicting operations, the same could be said about the Mark 7 AND the Powerpro. Do we need different sections on those as well?

I find it interesting that a machine made 70 years ago is still relevant enough to even be brought up on a forum like this. I learn a lot from the questions concerning the 10ER because many times the questions are really still relevant to all Shopsmith machines (latest case in point is turning speed).

There are more similarities than differences when it come to how to do a task on a Shopsmith.

I would personally take a different line on that family seating chart.

The 10E would be the Patriarch of the Family, not a quirky uncle.

The 10E is Hans Goldschmidt's first child so to speak. Everything sprang from that tree.

I agree the current Shopsmith Inc. is a different company, but Hans led the transition to the Mark V family himself.

However, there is less difference between
the 2 Model 10s, than the Mark 5/V stuff.

And, the 2 Mark 7/VII models?

I've had 3 or 4 10Es and all of them were
converted to ERs, with one exception.
That one had the E tailstock and ext
table bracket. (No, didn't get the wooden
extension table, just the bracket.)

Oh, COMPLETELY off subject, is anyone
aware that a German scientist made the
Thermite mixture, Hans Goldschmidt.

Actually Hans participated in the development of the Mark 5.

SS Inc. dreamed up the V after initially making Mark 5s then the future Mark 5s became identified as Mark V 500 to distinguish them from the Mark V 505/510. . .

And, I'm SURE, THAT is a decent machine!
