The one on the right(newer version) is adjustable to work on either version. That large nut(stud) has an eccentric center(both versions). Purpose of the adjustment is to make the top surface level to the main table.

In JPG's pictures above the original for the cast on fence rail is on the left. The later for both the cast on and bolt on fence rails is on the right. In the first picture you can see the one on the right has two steps for clamping to both fence rails.

Ok, so this one was adjusted for the old style table. I've only used this extension on an old style table, only a couple of times too. My first Shopsmith was a Greenie (used) that came with one, it was very useful for the table saw on the smaller table. Never thought about clamping it to the extension. If you had 2 of them that would effectively extend your table in 2 dimensions.
