So the boards are cut as well as the MDO.

It turned out I went with 57-1/2, what I had written down, because of the patches to the boards would have been cut into and I did not want to do that. The length will be fine I'm sure.

I had a scrap of MDO sitting here from a few years ago, I had saved it thinking the it might work for the top and it did. I cut it to length and width after I cut the two boards using them to trace the size. Not sure how square the boards are but the top will be the same.

So since we have the rule about no pictures then it didn't happen I took pictures. I have to download them off the phone so maybe in my next post I'll have them ready.

Now it's time to put the tools away and clean up. Hoped to be done by 6:00 and it is now 5:29, shouldn't be a problem.

This is one of the ends I trimmed. One board was pretty square and the other not so much. The cuts were ruff too.
The other end wasn't even close.
I did the trim to length cuts which fixed those issue.
Next I trimmed the wide way, you can see the two places that were cut in to recess the supports.
You can just see the one after the cut but it close enough. If you look closely in this next picture you can see it. This is how I clamped it up to trace the boards unto the MDO.
Here is the MDO and the small left overs, not sure they are worth saving but the larger sheet sure was.
And that is that.

As I mentioned the unit had a plywood back. To get that to fit flush the notches were cut in, the supports then were inside the plywood. You can see them here in the circles.

Speaking of brace 'recesses', why are there none on yours JB since the boards are wider than the steel legs the other end of the braces are attached to?

I see the rolleyes.

The SS metal legs are tapered. Where the bottom of the braces attach to the legs the legs are 17" wide. The top of the legs are 15 1/4" wide. That being the case with a standard construction one would need spacers not recesses for the top end of the braces.

The top of my bench is 16 1/4". Spacers again.

I measured the early style base on my dedicated drill press, 13 1/4 inches, and the later style base, 10 1/4 inches, So an extra three inches for the longer early base.

My bench is 57 inches long and there is 1 1/2 inches extra on the headrest end, * and 2 1/4 inches on the pivot base end. * for a total of 3 3/4 inches.

So a 10E should just fit on a 57 inch bench.

My guess would be that the bench blueprints, like the preliminary manual, were drafted and printed based on the prototype model in the mad rush to get that first order shipped on time.
