Some of the mystery was solved last night. The PO called me to say he found the missing 6" faceplate. He is a retired aerospace engineer. When he decided to just store the machine in the garage he completely disassembled the machine. All tubes out etc. when he reassembled it to sell he just threw it together and didn't tighten anything. I figured something like this was up because the roll pin for the pivot pin was missing as well as everything being loose. This also explains the pristine condition of everything. I looked for the roll pin in his bag of little parts that was in the box. I looked through the box once last night to see if there were any other little parts that just happened to not get reinstalled but didn't find anything. No roll pin either so I will have to go pick one up. The awful part is that if this machine had ended up in the hands of someone that didn't go through the whole thing it could have caused a disaster. He had even removed the table from the trunions and those bolts were only finger tight.
