Ok thank you for all the info, im still waiting on a response on that ss unit. I have found the motor pulley with shaft assembly, to where it looks like all i would need to do is buy a 5" pulley and belt to put on the shaft to run the jointer.

That sounds promising. Check out jsburger's thread below to make sure that you have the necessary pulley hardware.

Yes there is a sleeve that is not in the picture. That item has been on eBay for a long time. I passed it up quite a while ago because it is not complete. The other issue is that both the 3 step pulley and the 5" pulley to drive the jointer are a 15/16" bore. That is a non-standard size today. I checked McMaster Carr and Grainger and they have no V belt pulleys with a 15/16" bore. Grainger does have a 5" pulley with a 7/8" bore that could probably bored out to fit.

BUT, that 2-3-4-5" step pulley from Amazon that I posted earlier will fit directly on a standard 5/8" motor shaft.

Where did you post it. I don't see it. The only issue might be the length of the motor shaft. The head stock might interfere with the jointer before the pulleys align.

Also the jointer and head stock pulleys might not line up at the same point so you would have to keep re-aligning the pulleys to use the jointer and the 10ER. A real pain to say the least.

Here's the post with the Amazon link: http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewt ... 01#p241001

I'll compare the new pulley with the 10ER assembly this evening. I haven't looked at them side by side yet.

If the diagrams (not picture) in the Magna jointer head rest manual are correct as to the pulley spacing your pulley should work without the speed changer. It will not work with the speed changer because with the speed changer the three step motor pulley is installed reversed.
