Sorry guys giving out bad info here...just talked to Tony, the friend I referenced, to pass along this info. He corrected me, it was Home Depot not Lowes, sorry. He also said he knew about the new ID's and about the HD deal said he talked to the manager. HD has a graduated discount system ...Active duty, retired and med discharge get 10% year around all other vets only get discount on certain days..labor day, veterans days etc...so unless the VA med card specifically say disable vet on it, there is no way for the cashier to know what area you fall under...makes sense...DD214 clears that up. So I guess these new ID's are a way to combat this problem or confusion which I assume will list your status..

HD and Lowes have pretty much the same policies and they are very well stated on their web sites. Just being a vet does not get you the discount except on certain days. This card will not change that. However, there are many places that offer a vet discount with no stipulations. Here is a picture of the ID Card.

Assuming that is what it looks like that is the same card you get ("Med Card") when you are enrolled in the VA Health Care system. I have one that says VA Health Care Enrollee and Service Connected under my picture. What has changed is now you can get this card without being enrolled in the VA Health Care system.

Presumably this will give you access to vet discounts at places that don't have the same stated conditions as HD and Lowes.

It must be store or region dependent. My VA card is accepted for the discount at both the HD and Lowes in any one I've used in AZ.
I had a problem signing on for the the Vet ID so, called the number provided. I was told that the VA issued card was all I needed.

BTW, I do not have a service connected disability.

That is because it is the same card. See my post above. The policy is stated on the HD and Lowes web sites and is universal AFAIK. I think the issue is employee training. They don't know the difference so if it works use it. The HD policy specifically says "Disabled Vet". Your VA ID Card must say "Service Connected" to qualify. How many employees of HD or Lowes know that? They see a DOD/Government ID card and accept it.

Lowes has my discount info in their database so, my My Lowes card works without showing the ID. I guess I've just been lucky at HD.
Ace also has me in their database as qualifying for the Vet discount.
The ID card has saved me $$ at some restaurants and motels, too.

Yup, Lowes and HD policy is the same. If you are not active,retired or disabled your vet status is only good on certain holidays. Since I am retired I have the same as you at Lowes. It is in the system. Good for you that your VD ID Card with no disability got you in the system.

I think HD and Lowes should change their policy to all vets since all vets will now have an ID card (if they take the time to apply) that shows their service.

One thing that has helped us is that we have rental properties in Sacramento. When we need material for repairs we wanted to order here in Utah to get the 10% and pickup in Sac. It was a problem because you paid in Sac. and no way to verify the vet discount. You could not do it on line for the same reason. Lowes always worked with us and would call the Sac store on the phone, place the order and verify the vet status. Now with their new system that is no longer necessary.

Lowes has changed it policy, as of last spring.

Yes it is. Now with the VA ID Card available the discount is available to ALL vets as it should be.

Off topic,,,, if any of you are members of a cmp program ,,,,the federal government is releasing its cash of 1911 pistols to be sold to the public, some may have been issued during V/N , I dont know all the rules or details but I did read x military with honorable discharge are eligible to purchase them .
