Second ShopSmith, Needs Work

Let her design a piece of furniture and then make it the nicest piece of furniture she ever had. As you build it keep her involved and pretty soon the questions are more about the next project , how to build it and getting the materials for the project.

This one right here. "Let" her be in charge of the design and maybe the finishing. Get her a nice 1/4 sheet hand sander and let her take charge of the project.

My older brother had fought getting a Shopsmith,
for the longest time. Finally, I lent him my lathe
setup Model 10. (He only knew about an old
next-door neighbor, who had an OLD MkVII,
and was scared of the "plastic drive.")

My Model 10s, are quite a bit older than the MkVII,
and have plastic nothing!

He now has the horizontal setup, as well as another,
hanging on the wall, in vertical drill-press mode.

For Thanksgiving, a younger (there are 6 brothers)
came down, with his youngsters. It was GREAT fun,
to see his daughters turning stuff.

Is a 10E an "early" 10ER?

I had a '60s MkVII/7, and it DID have both
markings on it. Was basically parts, and got
it for free. Gave it away for free, too.

Yes, it DID say MKVII, AND MK7 on it.

Oh, about the Model 10, I just call them a
Model 10. Almost everything will fit on
either. (Can you say that about either
MK7?)

Oh, did the MkVII have a different lathe
spur drive? The one I got with that one,
had a drive spur that is about 1.25 inches
in diameter. Regular Model 10 drives are
about .75 inches. Yes, I DID keep that spur.

I was being 'forgiving' when I called that tag 'mysterious'. TBN, I think it was a blatant goof.

No larger than 'normal' spur on a MVII that I know of.

I agree, no comparison - they be different animals.





Can you imagine a Power Pro headstock made from CI?
