Find center on your stock and use a woodworm screw in your jaws.

Recently I made some Kururin figit sticks. To get the thruhole centered I turned jam chucks insearted them at each end and finished turning the figit sticks. This procedure can be used for pepper grinders.
Picture 1 shows turning the jam chucks.
Picture 2 shows drilling the thru hole in the rough turning. As the picture shows I used a chuck mounted in the tail stock. But with the SS a horizontal boring setup would work well.
Picture 3 shows how the jam chucks are assembled for finish turning.
Picture 4 is the finished turning still mounted on the lathe.
