I do more re-sawing than intricate cuts, so my Stabilizer is out of the saw more than in which is why I was so surprised I wore out the bearings on it since I use far wider blades most of the time.
I would say that more folks here preload theirs the 1/8" and likely do a lot more 1/8" blade work than I do. Next time I have a project like that I will try both ways on a variety of wood types and see how it works.
Consensus seems to be 1/8" preload is the way to go based on what I am reading here. In fairness to Carter, mine came with a used band saw I acquired with a 510 and I have no idea how much wear might have been on it already. I only wore that one bearing out and I personally didn't put all the wear on it.

Okay, everything is up and running properly! I mounted a new 1/8th blade and it is cutting absolutely beautifully! And, after putting in new autotrack bearings, very quietly! You can make very tight curves with the stabilizer, that's for sure.
