Thanks Everett and JPG. I'll re-read everything mentioned (and everything else I can find).

The DVR Motor does not attach to the motor pan at all. New holes are drilled between the pan attachment holes at the bottom of the headstock casting. The "brain" box mounts above the DVR motor in holes drilled through the headstock, behind the new Idler Pulley. Are the headstocks both the same width in those areas? Are the Idler Pulley mounting holes the same size? Is the Idler Pulley and Drive Sleave the same distance apart in both? Is the distance between the Idler Pulley and the bottom of the headstock casting (where the DVR motor will mount) the same? With the Rack Advance in the belt area, how much clearance is there between it and the motor belt? The new motor belt is a Poly-V not a V belt. Since you have both to look at it may help in deciding if it's possible before investing any money.

That's true, he could retain the Mark VII Pan and as I mentioned he might be able to slide the DVR mounts forward to line up with the poly-v segment on the idler in the DIY upgrade kit, even if he had to use a spacer to fill any gap that might be present in a Mark VII headstock.
