The process: A large 2 1/4" thick mesquite live edge slab was cut down the middle. The resulting two pieces were planed to 1 3/4" thickness and trimmed at the ends then, turned in so the live edges were facing each other.
Mesquite, more often than not, will have numerous checks, cracks and worm holes. Those were filled with epoxy and turquoise powders and pebbles.
Then, using Charles Neal's trace coating process, the two pieces were sanded and, sanded and, sanded. Started with 60 grit on a belt sander then, worked up through 180 with orbitals. A lot of sanding, but they are smooth as glass.
After sanding, the pieces were arranged so the ends were square, clamped in position and a glass pattern was made with paper. After the glass was cut per the pattern, it was laid on the two pieces and, using a 1/2" top bearing pattern bit, the mesquite was excavated to receive the glass.
The legs are 3/4" walnut, cut to 3" wide and, the upright portion is 1/4 1/2" long. The lateral top and bottom pieces are 20 1/2 long, the width of the table. They are joined at the corners with pocket screws.
the lateral top pieces are attached through counter bored and, elongated holes to accommodate for any wood movement.
The finish started with two applications of Dark Walnut Watco, followed by 3 coats of Watco and Helmsmans varnish at an initial 50/50 mix. The varnish was increased by 25% for the each of the next two coats. Then, two coats of straight varnish was sprayed. Between each coat, the dried finish was abraded with mesh pads. Finally, it was waxed with J&J applied with Liberon wool.
A few more pictures. Please excuse the buffing pad residue I forgot to vacuum off on the one leg.

Oops....the legs are 14 1/2" long, not 1/4 1/2 as I mis-typed.

Okay Gene, that’s just not fair!! 
I work to follow the plans and directions so it looks like the picture on the front of the plans. You “wing it” and it comes out a masterpiece!!
