Did you get your name because it never rains where you live Now that I'm retired, $1,200 is a lot of money and I would not spend it on the PP now since the stock motor with the reversing modification works just fine. Food for thought for anybody thinking of upgrading considering the original motor is over 35 years old.

I am going to chime in here. I think this will seriously make people think twice on a Mark 7 purchase. Yes the technology is amazing, but reliability is just not as good as the mark V's have been. Most of us don't mind repairs, but 500 dollar controllers and 500 dollars for power supplies starts making the Mark 7 a little to expensive for my taste. I am glad I have a Mark 7, it is an amazing machine, but I won't buy another nor will I upgrade my 500 (as I was planning to do). These machines, historically, last for decades, but the PowerPro has not been that reliable, and with repair costs like has been mentioned here, in my mind, is not worth it.

Sorry for the rant, but I am shocked by the cost of repair ....

I just finished taking the fan off the end of the motor to clean out the speed sensor. There was a buildup of dust on the sensors but that didn't seem to make any difference. The crt still flashes the backlight every 2 or 3 seconds, like it't trying to tell me something but just can't. Since I have all the pieces apart I'm going to call SS tomorrow to see if I can send in just the controller and power supply and have them tested. If one of them is bad I will purchase a new part and see how things go from there. I really don't want to have to mess with sending in the motor if I don't have to. If they can test on the bench and both the parts I sent in check out good, then it's decision time. New motor or not
I'm hoping SS does the actual work on these motors, they might just send them back to the maker.

Mike, looks great. Thanks for that link. I think I will go into the controller box to see what's going on inside that as well. I will check the connectors as they suggest.

Ok, the two smallest parts are in the mail and should arrive at SS next week. I'm told that they can test these two components without the motor to determine which may be bad. If they check out then it's on to the motor. Considering it cost $40.00 just to send these small parts by slow boat, I can't wait to find out how much it would cost to send the motor

Is it reasonable to assume that you checked "all" of the connectors and plugs and doing so gave no solution and that is why you sent parts to be checked?

Just curious. What parts are you having tested by Shopsmith?

Yes, I checked and rechecked all connectors. I squeezed the flat connectors just to make sure they are tight. I sprayed all connections with contact spray. I blew all the dust out and cleaned the speed sensors. Since I'm getting a flash of light on the control panel display, I'm assuming I'm getting power. I tried both 220 and 110. There are only 3 parts, the display, a black box with a bunch of stuff inside, coils and stuff, and the motor. I took the display apart and reconnected all the connections after giving them a good spray of electrical spray. I'm going to guess it's going to be something in the black box. If so I hope they can repair it, or it's going to be over $500 for a new one. Which I will pay if that's what the problem is.
