I went ahead with what I though was the best solution for me. Using a barrel trimmer from pen turning I took a little off the tapered end on each one. For got to measure the starting point but they ended up a .440" thick in the end and that works with the 3mm wide size 6 ring I'm going to work on.
The supplier got back to me with their solution which is to turn one of the bushings around.... I don't think I like that but sure it will work just not give you as much access to the side of the ring on that side, of course you can swap the ring or bushings to the other side from time to time.....
Anyway I'm not sure anyone else is interested in this project to the point of trying it but for the sake of completeness this is it in a nut shell.
