Nice looking train. Have you thought about using a jig/scroll saw to make the spokes. Look at some mid 1800's steam engines for some inspiration

I'm not skilled enough for the small wheels and for the larger ones I might be able to do. The boss changed her mind to the solid ones. I don't want to tempt fate.

Those are what I had in mind but the boss has a more cartooney version in mind.

We have finally come to concensus on what the engine should look like, in other words my wife told me what she wants. These are the part ready for paint and assembly. I will post photos when all cars and engine is painted and assembled.
