Ignore then 6000 x 3.... for now.
Three pix = dir from sd card(original from camera)
..........= saved file to computer
..........= pix info from forum.
What/where did things happen. I assume Irfanview excluded meta data from the original.

Well, I'm not sure what you are trying to show or say with those.

I am trying to provide clues as to how/where a 5 MB picture got uploaded to the forum with a file size less that 2 MB.
I gotta say Irfanview decreased the file size.
However something is reducing the
displayed size from the forum.
I vaguely recall some 'discussion' when this BB software was initiated re what display action to take with large pix. IIRC reducing it to a more compatible size was decided upon. Back then 'we' were posting images side by side . . . and that resulted in differing views by different computer displays.

The third picture shows the info from the picture on the forum. It shows the picture was too large in pixels as uploaded but something scaled it to a size to allow the forum to accept it.

Then why am I seeing a sizing error that says 2MB is too big when I upload a file now?

I did not see a 2MB error because the file I uploaded(temp.jpg) was smaller than 2MB. However the mystery remains why the forum did not choke on the pixel size(4068 x 3456).
The scaling(970 x 728) indicated on the third is part of the mystery.

I have just had the same experience. I altered the settings on my camera so as to create a 4032x3024 (12M) image. The forum rejected it.
The second image was 2560x1440 (1.3M) and the forum accepted it.
The "something that changed it" was my camera setting.

Because as Everett said the size limit is checked first. If you look at JPG's first picture the file from the camera is 5+MB. He loaded it into Irfanview and saved it out and Irfanview did not change the pixel size but it changed the saved file size to 1.5+MB which is below the 2MB limit.
So it appears that the forum accepted the file because it passed the file size limit and then the forum software scaled the picture to meet the pixel requirement.

Yes but we have always thought you had to meet both file size and the pixel size. Your picture meets the file size but is still over the max pixel size that used to be 2050 X 1180.
