Free Flexible Shaft Box

Re: Free Flexible Shaft Box
I have not measured mine but since it has the normal SS tapered flat my guess is 5/8". I will go measure it when there is a break in the football game. Bruce's looks exactly the same as mine.

Mine has a 5/8" arbor and the other end fits on the Shopsmith 5/8" arbor. The only writing on mine says- Run this way.JPG wrote:What od is the output shaft?
You have confirmed my suspicions that mine is not SS.

My two say that also. No other markings. Mine are also 5/8" on both ends.amboyna wrote:Mine has a 5/8" arbor and the other end fits on the Shopsmith 5/8" arbor. The only writing on mine says- Run this way.JPG wrote:What od is the output shaft?

Re: Free Flexible Shaft Box
My two Magna/Shopsmith Flex Shafts are the same. I also have a Craftsman with a 1/2" bore which has a 1/2" threaded shaft on the other end that requires the Magna/Shopsmith adapter to use on the Shopsmith. The adapter was made for non-Magna/Shopsmith Flex Shafts.

Are you talking about the Magna adapter for the Jacobs 33B chuck? Was that adapter available separately from Magna?chapmanruss wrote:My two Magna/Shopsmith Flex Shafts are the same. Re: Free Flexible Shaft Box
Does anyone actually ever use one anymore? I have a few but I have not used one in years. I have all manner of pneumatic grinders, polishers and buffers and specialty electric tools too, dozens of them. I just no longer find a use for mine... About all I used one for was for power cleaning tires or tubes before patching.
Just wondering?

Re: Free Flexible Shaft Box
No, I have not used mine. I bought the first one on eBay years ago to add to my collection of 10ER stuff. Then years later I bought one of my 10ER's that had one. I agree with you that now days there is not much reason to use one.robinson46176 wrote:Does anyone actually ever use one anymore? I have a few but I have not used one in years. Re: Free Flexible Shaft Box
I am like John, I have them for my Model 10 collection. I have hardly used it.

No, the drill chuck adapter was P/N 102-47X and could have been purchased separately with the set screw for $1.05. I am talking about the Flex Shaft Adapter that was part numbers 136-1X and 12 329 and is shown below. P/N 12 329 would have either a 1/4" set screw (Model 10) or a 5/16" set screw (Mark 5). I use it with the Craftsman Flex Shaft to attach it to the Shopsmith . Otherwise the Craftsman can attach directly to a motor with a 1/2" shaft. Are you talking about the Magna adapter for the Jacobs 33B chuck? Was that adapter available separately from Magna?

Very interesting. The first time I have heard of or seen one of them. Something else to keep an eye out for.chapmanruss wrote:A am like John, I have them for my Model 10 collection. I have hardly used it.

Re: Free Flexible Shaft Box
I have one in the box like the one in the picture but in better shape. It took me a while to find it for sale on it's own. There is one for sale, no box, with other arbors, 1/2" and 5/8", most are Shopsmith, for sale for 70 on ebay from the guy in Eagle Point OR that sells a lot of Model 10 parts.
I also have a non-Shopsmith adapter that came with the 72" Craftsman Flex Shaft I have. It has two set screws.
