Here' that article on the Mark 2

Everett Note on first Page the Item 4 which is the proof of concept model filed with the patent application using a drill press headstock adapted for physical model submission.

Some members may recall that I scanned a copy from the only known original photograph of that machine (depicted in 4) when I was given physical access to records of Dr. Hans Goldschmidt earlier this year.

I fixed the page 2 sequence error when I got home this morning.

I had hoped it would look different.

Notice it is identical to the headstock lock to the right. One of the lock screws should be different from the rest(those with the red plastic handle).

That difference is a 'shoulder' near the inner end of the threads. The purpose of the shoulder is to provide a clamp for locking into vertical mode. Also apparently 'missing' is the plate which pivots on the 'base' and provides the slot which the 'missing' clamp engages. I think we need a pix of this as I am afraid I am not being very clear on this. The plate likely got lost when the Mark 2 was removed from the original steel base and installed on the wooden base('bench tubes').

The arrows point to the plate and lock screw. Hmmmmmm I seem to be looking for the wrong type(the lock screw being sought did not have the plastic handle! ).

* Pix 5 and 6 provide a clue as to the reason/origin of the second main table slot. The Mark 5 pictured does not have the second slot. The Mark 2 does have the second slot. I surmise since low cost was the design goal, and it being cheaper to modify the existing table mold(S) than create a new one for the Mark 2 table, the mark 5 molds were altered and subsequent Mark 5 production included the second slot. The need for the second slot becomes apparent when the wide ripping function method is understood to NOT include the rip fence, but instead by use of a step in the auxillary table. There is NO WAY for the rip fence to attach to the aux table let alone bridge the gap.

However the Mark 5 pix is likely a stock photo and may not be of then current production. The M5 pix includes the extruded front rail that creates the mismatch with the aux table rail.

No proof, merely more observation.

P.S. After a cursury(?) review of the pix, I came to realize the M2 table uses the same mounting holes for the front rail(different rail from the M5 rail).

Ah, I think you were looking in the wrong place (and I also didn't provide enough pictures...). I do have the knob with a shoulder and the locking piece! The locking piece came off when I took the legs off to fit the machine in my car. Hopefully this clears up some confusion!
