Informal Poll - Size of your Shop and how many Shopsmiths?

My shop is a 30' X 40', 1200 Sq. Ft., dedicated building. That includes a 10' X 12' finishing room and a 5' X 5' bathroom.

The Shopsmiths include a full sized machine that started out as a new 510. It has been upgraded to a full MK 7. (Power Pro, double tilt and 520 rails). I have a conventional 520 shorty and a conventional 520 dedicated drill press. There is a stand alone Teal scroll saw, a stand alone over head pin router and a Power Station. The SS band saw is on it's own power stand. The SPT's include a jointer, belt sander, strip sander, pro planer, and two jig saws.

Model 10ER's include one fully restored, a dedicated drill press (not restored yet) and there is another 10ER in the shop in the process of being restored. There are two more 10ER's and a Greenie MK 5 in the garage waiting restoration.

The non Shopsmith tools include a Powermatic PM2000 table saw, Powermatic 6" jointer, Powermatic 14" band saw, Performax 16-32 drum sander, Shop made router table, Clear Vue cyclone dust collector and two Powermatic over head air filters.

My basement wood shop is 36' x 40' plus a little storage area in another small basement room totals about 1500 square feet.
This is my first very nice shop space... Always before it was stuck in some shed or a small garage or a section off the farm shop in an old barn. When we moved into this large house (300' from our original house) I started setting up my wood shop in our old house but one of our daughters was needing a house and came to me wanting to buy our old house. I explained to her that I didn't really want to sell or even rent the house but I would consider it. I finally shot them a price that was a reasonable amount below market value and then offered to carry the contract for 20 years at no interest. They said yes and I had my lawyer do it up legal but with no penalties or recourse actionable. I said what am I going to do sue my own daughter? We have always had a better relationship than that.
So much for my planned woodshop... It has worked out very well all around and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
The basement woodshop is great, fully heated and air conditioned and I have a walk out entrance to move stuff in and out. It isn't perfection but I'm happy.
Still too much stuff that needs to be someplace else. but it's all slowly getting there.
The basics are listed in my signature line. I'm slowly working on a "construction shop" which is more about our buildings and rental property than typical wood shop items.

My shop is 24 x 29'. About 1/3 of it is taken up by my car and motorcycle (both not everyday drivers) so that leaves me with about 450' working area.

My SS stuff is an old markVII. I recenly got a 1980 markV with a bandsaw and jointer.

My non SS stuff is: Craftsman RAS, Rigid TS2412 tablesaw, Delta planer, Task Force bandsaw, Performax ocillating drum sander.

I will probably sell the Performax bandsaw and the markV.
I am perfectly happy with my markVII.

I have been working in a single garage bay for years 11'x 25' but just recently took over a second 11'x 25' bay. I have one shopsmith upgraded to a full MK 7. Also have a standalone 18" bandsaw, 8" jointer, 13" planer, 12" miter saw, 2hp dust collector, table router, work bench, a Minimill, and a 36"x 24" CNC router. When I recently got the dust collector is when I had to move in to the second bay.

I have a 1/2 basement shop at 266 sq ft. I have a SS 520 with Power Pro. A stand alone SS Planer and Scroll Saw. I have the belt & strip sander, bandsaw, jointer, jig saw and a joint-matic. I have a SS 500 that I have mounted on the wall in permanent drill press mode. non SS router table. Delta dust collector. I have another 500 in the garage that I am refurbishing. I have a bad case of this disease.

My shop is in the basement, and it needs to serve other purposes when I’m not down there LOL. It’s 18 x 15 feet. I have a MK 7 which I bought new in 2015.

Dedicated shop 22X30. Six SS’s. One 520 Power Pro and 5- 510’s. The are set up in permanent configurations for drill press and various SPT’s. One is a sliding table saw and one is a 30” drum sander. The Power Pro is used primarily as a lathe.

The main working space is about 10 x 14. The space contains a full size SS, a mini SS, a 2 x 6 bench, the dust collector, a clamp rack and a sharpening station. A Delta dust collector hangs from the ceiling above the spot where the saw is usually running. The actual "free" space for work and assembly is about 8 x 12. All the walls, except the one with the window, are covered with shelves and cupboards, and the space below the workbench is drawers and cupboards. The room was designed to be a bedroom, so there is a closet and a walk-in space connected to it. The closet is about 2 x 3 and is shelving floor to ceiling. This area is storage for misc. parts, pieces, jigs and fixtures. The walk-in space is dedicated to lumber storage and books and has a floor area of about 4 x 6. The books are in a case about 3 ft wide and 5 ft tall and the lumber is stored horizontally on racks mounted to the wall. Boards longer than 6 feet are stored outside of the house in the garage or the woodshed. There is a little entry foyer to the room and in that space of about 3 x 5 is a stand with my DeWalt planer and three plastic tubs of magazines, leaving just enough free area to get into the work shop. Put it all together and it looks like just about 180 square feet total...so I'd say it qualifies as a "small" shop. Don't see how it could work at all without the shopsmiths. They stay parked against one of the walls until needed and then are rolled out into the center space. If I turn the full size SS at right angles to the long dimension of the room and use the air space in the entry and the walk-in, I can rip an 8 footer. The mini powers the band saw and the jointer, which stay parked on it all the time. Hard to believe, but out of this space in the last 15 or so years have come not only numerous small projects but also three large case pieces, ranging in size from about 36 x 60 to the one I am now just finishing up which is a china hutch standing almost 84 inches tall and nearly 60 inches wide. I just don't believe anything bigger could be put together in a shop this size.

Would I like more space...absolutely! As well as more natural light than just one window provides. But...there are also benefits. Being in a shop so small has made me keep the place super organized...it is so easy to get the bench covered with "stuff" that has to be moved every time you want to do something...much easier to just put everything in its place at the end of each day and allow nothing but work on the top of the workbench. Also, being in the house means I only have to keep one woodstove going...In a free-standing shop I would have to spend twice as much time carting firewood in from the shed and splitting kindling.

I have a 20x24 dedicated shop building and use about 20x10 of a 20x30 green house building I covered with sheet metal. The buildings are about 50' apart. I have the 10ERs and a Mark V in the green house building and a Mark V, the Power Pro and Craftsman table saw in the shop building. My wife started making bird houses last year so she gets a Mark V and the newest band saw but I kept the Power Pro

I have 2 10ERs and 3 Mark Vs, see my signature below. I picked up the 3rd Mark V in Oklahoma City last December(thanks db5). It has a Power Pro headstock the previous owner had exchanged for his old one so I don't know the original serial number. Also came with a newer to me bandsaw and jointer. I believe he did the upgrades in 2012. He also threw in a Delta 46-460 Midi lathe. Happy with everything l got. I swapped the Power Pro to my 520 unit but I probably won't do the double tilt up grade. Sometimes I think I collect Shopsmiths with minor bouts of making sawdust.
