Osmo Polyx Oil is called a hard wax oil that is hybrid of both oil and wax but performs almost like a polyethylene as far as protection. Kind of expensive but goes a lot further than the same amount of Watco with almost no odor. I used the Clear Satin 3043 which is now on back order at Amazon but was the same price as this Clear Matte 3031.

I have been wanting to try Osmo Polyx Oil because I have been hearing a lot about hard wax oils the past year or so. Looking at the 1 star reviews on Amazon for this product I see complaints that it doesn't hold up and that water spots will stain it. I know online reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt, and you have to consider the application compatibility versus the chosen finish, but...just wondering if Osmo has held up well for you in your experience. Also, anything to look our for when applying or caring for an Osmo finish? Wondering if the negative Amazon reviews are bogus.

I am just now trying it so I don't have any long term experience with it. But I would take Marc Spagnuolo as a source over some review on Amazon.

Haven't used Osmo myself, yet, but I have heard it mentioned quite often by Colin Knecht on his Wood Work Web channel.

This thread piqued my interest so I checked and found he had a couple of videos specifically on this product that I had missed. It appears there are some tricks to its use, that may explain the poor reviews.

Yeah, I have been hearing Marc evangelize about Osmo and Rubio, so I am anxious to try both in the future. With regard to water spots though, I think it is valid if water is left on it (see link below). Marc has talked about this regarding how these finishes don't offer as much protection, but then it is easier to do a repair and refinish an area if needed. Keep us posted on how Osmo does for you. I am getting really tired of the VOC's and fumes from poly, so I will likely be purchasing Osmo and/or Rubio in the near future to try out on future projects.
