There are three parts needed for the upgrade of an older Mortising Hold Down to use it in the "T" track Fences. The Rod (P/N 514487), the Flat Washer (P/N 514490) and the "T" nut (P/N 514491). The Flat Washer is used to lock the rod to the fence's "T" track when the rod is turned into the "T" nut to tighten it. If you did not buy the flat washer take the new rod and "T" nut to your local hardware store and find one that fits over the threads on the rod and has an outside diameter at least the overall width of the "T" nut. Do not get one that extends beyond the edge of the fence so as not to interfere with placing stock against the fence that is taller than the fence. Any Mortising Hold Down from the original one made for the Model 10's to more current ones can be upgraded for "T" track use.

It would be nice if Shopsmith would offer this as an upgrade kit with the three parts. They could sell it for the cost of the rod and "T" nut while saving the separate inventorying of the washer for it. A big reason for a common hardware item like the washer costing $4.95. A win - win for Shopsmith and customers.

Yes, I ordered the three parts you mentioned and am awaiting the parts and final price, from my recollection it was $30 something. I will advise when received how long it took, how they work and total cost.

The current costs for the parts are

Rod P/N 514487 $16.42
Flat Washer P/N 514490 $4.95
"T" Nut P/N 514491 $5.99

Total for the three parts is $27.36 plus shipping

This can be used with the older fences having the mounting hole by inverting the rod without the washer and "T" nut attached as shown in the instructions.

Drill/tap hole in one end of 'old' rod.

Add stud(or cut off bolt threads).

Assemble to t-nut.

Cost 5.99 + stud + time.

With a 5/8" coupler, mounting the rod on the quill is easy and thus drilling/tapping is also easy and accurate.
