No I do not think the missing selector plate(actually it is an interlock) caused your problem other than the missing interlock function.

I can send thee a key. ;)

Being a double cut, they are a bit pricey(requires a good locksmith with good equipment and work ethic).

Same key as Sawsmith [YPP].

Thank you! I might take you up on that offer if I successfully refurbish it and can find the interlock plate...there was a box of random stuff that came with it so it might be in there.

On the topic of my Mark 5.7 project, I came across the thread where a user had found a Mark V speed control retrofit into a Mark VII headstock:

I was wondering if you had heard the outcome of the damaged control sheave. It looks like something I'd like to attempt if it really is possible to do.
